a fourth inning rally just not enough. giant fans walk away tonight disappointed after the team loses game one of the nlcs. good evening everyone i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm ken wayne. the giants try to come up with a win over the cardinals. but they came up short on the

first game of the nlcs series. debora villalone is outside of the park. but we begin with mark ibanez who joins us live from inside at&t park. >> reporter: i guess the best thing i can say to giant fans there's a little more margin for error this time around in a seven game series. but they find themselves again in an unenviable position of a must win. and in his two starts in the play offs again rocked this time by the cardinals. a big 4th inning the giants were already down 4-0. when carlos beltran who played briefly with the giants last year just clobbers one. switch hitter batting from the right side and no doubt about it shot. and the cardinals have themselves a 6-0 lead. but in the bottom half of that 4th inning the giants fight

back a two run rally. it was brandon belt with. and then blanco with a shot to right center with two men on and that made it a 6-3 ball game. they cut the deficit to 6-4 but the cardinal bullpen 5-1/3 scoreless inning of relief work. mark comes in to get scutero for the last out and there you have it. the giants never mounted a rally after that big bottom of of the 4th inning and they do fall short. tough right hander for the cardinals in an effort to even this series up before they have to go back to st. louis. a crucial game tomorrow night. same time 5:00 here on ktvu. in the meantime, from at&t park, wish we had better news but that's not the case. giant's down 1-0 in the series back to you. all right, thank you mark. giant fans they showed up in large numbers tonight to support the team for their

of his professionalism. i think when badly hurt, he came back. and you know one of the things i learned is, a lot of like is taking defeat and coming back from it. >> it's been an unbelievable season. next is the all star break these guys have been on fire. they're facing another tenacious team. cards are a great team but, we got faith. you know we're, we're fans from way back back in the 70s. >> reporter: every fan we talked to tonight was leaving with their chin up, optimistic in it for the seven game haul. plus they're confident that even if the worse happens and they do drop game two tomorrow. they know how tough their team is on the road. just look at cincinnati, now this ballpark was alive with excitement and so was the entire neighborhood. and cara liu captured some of that for us, let's go to her live, cara. >> reporter: a lot of common treads out in the neighborhood as well.

fans certainly disappointed with a loss but optimistic about the series. now fans flooded restaurants and bars like the polo club well before the game got under way. they tell us it was fun just to be able to soak in the atmosphere around the ballpark. also momo's across the street also packed all day long. folks enjoying the sunshine, excite -- excitement of the game even without a ticket. >> it was just so much fun. it's bad they didn't win. but we had a lot of fun. >> you can hear the cheers, almost like we're part of it. >> many coming here to soak it all in. one of the business owners tells us he's loving the boom. he brought in four times the staff. he's loving the influx. >> this is not your average

sunday. we have a good spike in business. giants go on the road, win three in a row. bring home the national league series. doesn't get much better than this. >> reporter: all the restaurants around the ballpark they're planning extra staff, extra food and extra drinks out here tomorrow for game two. for now we're live at at&t park, cara liu, ktvu channel 2 news. clear skies were the order of the day for most of the bay area at at&t park. and around much of the city. ktvu's meteorologist mark tamayo with more. >> reporter: the high clouds have been on increase. we start out with clear skies. mostly cloudy skies. for tomorrow the clouds clearing out to near the shoreline. temperatures in downtown san francisco, approaching the 60s throughout the afternoon hours. so here's the forecast for game two of the nlcs. you can see partly sunny skies. temperatures mainly in the

lower 60s, 62 degrees. winds approaching 60 miles per hour. a bit of a breeze out there but once again a nice forecast for game two of the series. we'll probably have those beautiful aerial shots once again of the ballpark and surrounding bay waters. coming up i'll let you know when san francisco warms back up into the 80s. your forecast coming up in a little bit. our giant's coverage continues online. you can go to ktvu.com and click on the mlb play offs tab for news, video and pictures. in other news tonight, b.a.r.t. shut down service for more than an hour this evening after a man walked into the transbay tube between san francisco and east bay. the closure as you see here from these pictures caused delays and delays and confusion. some travelers on both sides of the bay. b.a.r.t. officials tell us their security cameras caught the man walking into the under water rail tube tonight. but they immediately shut down service between the embarcadero. officers then walked through the tube, located and arrested the man around 7:45 tonight. b.a.r.t. restored full service across

the tube about a half hour later at 8:15. new at 10:00 tonight, a double shooting in contra costa county claimed the lives of a man and woman in a shooting tonight. investigators say the man was pronounced dead at the sce. the woman was taken to a local hospital where she later died. the names of the victims have not been released as family is being notified. witnesses say they saw a get away car leave the area but investigators have not released any information about that vehicle. police arrested a vallejo man in san francisco today. officers surrounded a victorian home in the city's alamo square neighborhood after receiving reports of gunfire near by. police say the suspect was hold up for four hours. by about 11:00 the suspect surrendered peacefully. his name has not been released. a sonoma college student

fell three stories. and officers say it was because of alcohol and horseplay. the student is identified as 19- year-old tyler glen. witnesses tell police that glen climbed over a balcony and that the boards he was hanging on to pulled loose that's when he fell about 20 feet to the ground. glen suffered a serious head injury and was taken to santa rosa memorial hospital where he's reported in stable condition. a driver was killed this morning after a solo vehicle crash in sonoma county. the high patrol says it received a call on the highway 101 fulton avenue. it appear it is driver was speeding. >> roadway was just a little bit of wet due to the fog. currently vehicle lost control, left the roadway and hit the redwood tree. >> the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. authorities say it's still too early to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. in hayward investigators

suspend alcohol was a factor in a deadly collision between a motorcyclists and a pedestrian last night. police say a 66-year-old hayward man was in a crosswalk at jackson street and silva avenue when he was struck by a man speeding. the motorcyclists was treated for nonlife threatening injuries, the pedestrian later died. police did not say who they suspected was intoxicated. firefighters worked to put out a car fire just after midnight. the mercedes you see here, an suv was engulfed in flames. authorities identified the 56-year-old woman accused of

take a look, coit tower a glow tonight in giant's orange as the team fighting for that national league championship title. coit tower isn't the only building showing giant pride. other buildings are also lit in orange tonight. outside san francisco giant fans are also showing their support. many gathered in bars and restaurants tonight to root for the home team. ken pritchett is live for us now in walnut creek with that part of the coverage. hi ken. >> reporter: we watched the giant's game tonight with fans here at mccoovey's restaurant. i can tell you this restaurant emptied pretty quick after that disappointing loss. this was the game.

the fans did not give up on especially after seeing the giants come back in the fourth after being down. in the 9th inning it looked like the giants might, might just turn the night around. the fans we talked to were disappointmented. but say if there's something they learned from last series is this team could can come back. >> next game we'll do it. >> seemed like they were going to get there but they ran out of team. >> you know what, what happened last week, they lost at home but the last three, here we are again. >> we're going to go six, at least. yeah it's going to be a tough series. >> five to six. they'll take it 5-6. i'll be here tomorrow night. >> reporter: that was one of several fans we talked to is -- talked to that say they actually have tickets for tomorrow's game. ken pritchett. now for the traditional

mayoral wager. if the giant's win the mayor of st. louis francis slay is offering up st. louis barbecue, toasted ravioli and st. louis brew. he will also change the twitter profile to the giants. if the if giant's win he will change his twitter page to the st. louis cardinals and will send food. with a little help he can get to the game under his own power. his mom kim says that at the ripe age of 2 he's already been to three giants game. and ilene sent us this picture of her favorite giant's fan gizmo. the orange and black sweater

nominees are taking a break from the campaign trail to concentrate on this week's big debate. the pressure is on president obama to reverse the surge in the polls gained by governor romney after the first presidential debate. >> he's going to be aggressive in making the case for his view of where we should go as a country and a country that's built around a thriving middle class not this top down theory that romney has. >> today obama brought pizza and encouraged campaign workers. his campaign says no one is a harsher critic of the president's first campaign debate than the president. >> i think that will be consistent with what they've been doing this whole campaign which is running a highly negative ad campaign. >> reporter: mitt romney and his family attended church this

morning near his massachusetts home. the republican nominee left on his own to go back to studying for the debate. it was lights, camera and lots of action in new york's hofstra university. technicians inside the sports complex set up the stage and television equipment today. this debate the second of two presidential face offs promises to be more informal is formatted like a town hall meeting with the candidates taking questions from undecided voters. candy croley will moderate that debate. you can watch it live right here on ktvu channel 2. we'll follow with reaction as well as analysis. veteran pennsylvania senator arlen specter died today after a battle with cancer. the five term senator died at his philadelphia home from complications of lymphoma. he was 82.

specter spent 20 years 24 congress. he stunned washington when he switched from republican to democrat. president obama called spector a fighter. democratic leader nancy pelosi released a statement after spector's death. it read in part -- senator specter offered a voice of reason and passion in every debate. always willing to reach across the aisle. after a long slow and very difficult trek through los angeles the space shuttle endeavour reached its final destination today. the shuttle ended its journey at the california science center about 17 hours late. it left l.a.x. back on friday. averaging just about two-miles- an-hour through the streets of l. a. about 400 trees had to be removed along the route to make room for the shuttle. thousands of people came to watch the shuttle's progress throughout the weekend. the mayor says he is jubilant that the trip is over. >> nothing like this has ever

austrian sky diver felix baumgartner made the highest

sky dive in history from an altitude of 128,000 feet over new mexico. that's more than 24 miles into space. aviation officials said they clocked baumgartner at 833 miles per hour that's mach 1.4. he later told reporters the only thing on his mind when he jumped was making it down alive. the cases of fungal meningitis has risen to 105. the centers of disease control says the number of deaths stands at 15. the number of deaths stem from steroid shots. the medications have been recalled. some of the contaminated medication was used here in california but there are no reports of infection here so far. in news of the world we are getting late word that the young girl shot in pakistan is

being flown to the united states. hundreds rallied for support. the unspoken advocates for girl's rights was shot in the head back on october 9. she remains unconscious and on a ventilator. late tonight pakistani officials say that she needs prolonged care to fully recover. from syrian rebels comes this video proporting the show the downing of a government jet by rebel fighters. rebels say the jet was shot down in alepro. evidence is growing that the syrian government is using russian made cluster bombs in densely populated areas. cluster bombs open and fly scattering smaller bombs over a wide area. many of those don't explode immediately posing a threat to civilians long afterward. and in china more than 100 people were injured some

suffering severe burning when fireworks rained down on a crowd. organizers had billed yesterday's fireworks as a low altitude and low pollution display. at least five people remain hospitalized tonight. an investigation is now under way into that accident. california dairy farmers are sounding the alarm saying high corn prices and the nation's drought is taking its toll on both carries and farmers. industry experts say this year could end with more than 100 dairies closing because of economic troubles. the western united dairy men say that three dairy farmers have committed suicide since 2009 2009 dispondent over losing their dairies. the announcement that california is to make. and a fan is stabbed right outside of candle stick park. why his attire may have played a role in the pregame violence.

built and i'm so impressed. >> reporter: the stadium is yet finished but there's already excitement, super bowl sized excitement. leaders from san francisco to santa clara have been working with the team on this. they're bidding to host the big game in 2016 or 2017. the nfl will announce tomorrow which cities are in the running. >> we're going to have the most iconic building in the entire nfl it's going to be right here in silican valley. most green, most technologically advanced and most beautiful. >> reporter: this comes as the san francisco 49ers move away from san francisco. some fans question which a superbowl in santa clara will still bring fanless. this will be a joint effort among bay area cities and that there's enough economic benefit to go around. >> it is the san francisco 49ers, we're part of san francisco bay region. it's a very short 40 miles between us. i think the entire region is

going to benefit and we're always going to collaborate together on this. >> reporter: according to league rules the earliest would be 2016 or 2017 super bowl. the other previous was held at sanford stadium back in 1985. in santa clara, anne rubin. witnesses say a man wearing a dallas cowboys shirt was stabbed today outside the 49 49ers was stabbed today. witnesses say the 27-year-old elk grove man was going to the game with several friends who are 49er fans. one of those friends told channel 2 two men started to tease the elk grove man about his dallas cowboys jersey and then things escalated. >> actually they were going with my girlfriend and her boyfriend jumped in the way and they stabbed him in the abdomen. yeah, just over arguing about sports. about teams. >> reporter: police arrested two men in connection with the

incident. the stab wound is described as minor and the victim is expected to survive. the case of a missing bay area man who vanished two years ago was set to be featured on a fox television show tomorrow night. the show missing will detail the disappearance of 21-year- old jackson miller who vanished back on may 15 of 2010. his family says jackson suffers from depression. he was last seen near the golden gate bridge but bridge officials say surveillance footage did not show anyone jumping from the bridge on that day. we are learning more tonight about the suspect linked to the disappearance and death of a mother from hollister. police arrested 30-year-old david jose kiros yesterday after an hours long stand off at his home. they say they volunteered for the search for ke era the day after she vanished. police have not identified the body found at his home but

police believe it is that of kiro's. they say someone is going into mailboxes and stealing boxes and outgoing mail. the pilots were worried about the fuel mixture before take off. the crash of the single engine plane killed all five people on board. the pilots expressed concern about the plane's performance due to the high altitude. witnesses to the crash said the plane did not look like it was at full power. >> a huge turn out all for a good cause. the reason 20,000 people laced up their shoes for a run through san francisco. >> and summer like weather is on the way. mark tamayo is joining us next with when we can expect 90- degree temperatures. ♪ god bless america the man who recorded perhaps the most famous song ever about san francisco sang god bless america during the 7th inning stretch at at -- at&t park tonight. tony bennett serenaded the crowd and invited them to sing with him. tony bennett recorded the song, i left my heart in san francisco, which the giants play after every victory. and hopefully they'll be playing tomorrow. >> as that sun sets temperatures too cool off

rapidly. we expect the same plan as we head into monday for game two. the high clouds happen on the increase over the next few hours you can see the satellite perspective here with a big batch of high clouds moving into northern california. so most of the bay area right now reporting partly to mostly cloudy skies. today you may have noticed the cool down if you were coast side with that persistent fog bank. keeping temperatures down into the lower 60s. but lots of 70s for the bay. santa rosa in the upper 70s at 79. for tonight mostly cloudy skies. the low clouds and fog will continue to develop as well. tomorrow for your monday some morning cloud cover. we're going to begin to bump up those numbers and the extended forecast. this is developing wet weather headlines. 70s, 80s a few neighborhoods approaching the lower 90s you will see the two days that will be happening this week in a little bit. first thing tomorrow morning, chilly out there.

watch out for patchy dense fog that could affect your visibility coast side and into the bay. your monday temperature. >> chris: start in the upper 40s to lower 50s. for your monday not too much changed. morning fog and temperatures inland on track to reach the lower 80s for the afternoon. we're going to warm up those numbers a good 6 degrees. high pressure developing in the pacific. here's a look at the high cloud cover. as the high builds, a build in tuesday but it really kicks in wednesday. it will clear out the fog. that mean it is beaches back into the 70s. perfect beach day by tuesday and wednesday. inland spots on either side of 90 degrees. whenever you have a pattern like this this time of year you probably know it. fire danger will be a concern. so watching out for that as we do approach wednesday. here's our forecast model showing you this low clouds and fog coast side right around the bay. and then into the afternoon hours, skies becoming partly sunny for the shoreline.

more sunshine though as you work your way inland and that orange contour that links up with the 80s. warmest locations tomorrow approaching the mid-80s. so you notice that change there out toward fairfield and santa rosa and san helena. oakland 73, liver mother 82 degrees. and san francisco the clouds in the morning, a forecast high of 69. but temperatures do come back down into the lower 60s by first pitch for game two of the giant's game just after 5:00. here's your day ahead. there's the warm up tuesday, wednesday and thursday. the beaches by wednesday in the 70s with your weekend always in view. steve pallson will have a look at the updated forecast tomorrow morning. >> all right. >> thank you, mark. more than 20,000 runners took part in san francisco's annual nike women's marathon. that race began at union square

and that route took runners past fort mason into the presidio before finally finishing along the great highway. there was no shortage of supporters lining the route. >> pretty amazing accomplishment if she makes it. i hope she does. >> would you ever do this? >> no, no way. >> reporter: why not? >> because it's crazy. >> reporter: well proceeds from the event benefit the leukemia and lymphoma society. >> an estimated 30,000 people took part in the los angeles aids walk raising more than $2.5 million. the money raised from the walk funds aids project los angeles and 29 other aids organizations that care for thousands of people living with hiv and provide education and prevention programs. television stars drew carrie and daisy fuentes were part of the event. not a very good sports day here in the bay area. so coming up next we're going to hear from the 49ers as they stutter against new york. and a live report from san
